Arkansas State: 2019 Camellia Bowl Champions
Tumblr media
Layne Hatcher threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns, the last with 3:37 to play, in Arkansas State's 34-26 win over Florida International in Saturday's Camellia Bowl at Cramton Bowl.
Hatcher was 27-for-51 passing with an interception.
His four touchdowns went to four different receivers: a 4-yarder to Omar Bayless, a 9-yarder to Kirk Merritt, a 15-yarder to Reed Tyler and a 13-yarder to Jonathan Adams.
Bayless finished with nine catches for 180 yards to win the Bart Starr MVP award for the Red Wolves (8-5). Austin Maloney caught 10 passes for 178 yards for the Panthers (6-7).
Jose Borregales kicked a career-high four field goals for FIU, including a Camellia Bowl-record 52-yarder.
But he missed a potential go-ahead 29-yarder with 5:10 remaining and Arkansas State leading 27-26. The Red Wolves followed with a five-play, 80-yard TD drive.
Borregales' field goals were for 25, 25, 48 and 52 yards. He was one shy of tying both an FIU record and an all-time bowl record.
Arkansas State ended FIU's last two possessions with interceptions, the final with 19 seconds to go.
The eight-point final margin made it the most-lopsided Camellia Bowl in history. The game's previous five games were decided by no more than five points, including two final-play field goals.

Krissy Noble, then pregnant, used her husband’s firearm to protect herself from a man who was did a home invasion of her house, beating her, with the intent to do who knows.
She killed the man who threatened her life, but because she had a prior non-violent drug conviction for marijuana (even though she acted legally in self defense) she risked going to prison for six years.
The message was from the Arkansas government was, if you have a way to defend yourself from a potential murderer, then let him potentially murder you, if you have a felony marijuana drug conviction.
By the way, these drugs she didn’t even directly posses, but were in a car she was in that was stopped by police.
If you support (or not) gun rights, and you support rational policy, then punishing and locking up this young mother is absurd.
Non-violent felons shouldn’t be automatically stripped of their gun rights and let’s end the war on marijuana.
By the way, if you are interested, the group www.norml.org is working to end these anti-marijuana laws, so women like Krissy are no longer punished for defending herself and her child to be.

TUCSON, Ariz | Nevada beats Arkansas State 16-13 in OT at Arizona Bowl
TUCSON, Ariz  — Reagan Roberson bulldozed through one tackler and dove into the end zone on an 11-yard catch-and-run in overtime, lifting Nevada over Arkansas State 16-13 in the Arizona Bowl on Saturday.
Nevada (8-5) labored against Arkansas State’s defensive front all game before coming to life late, going up 10-7 on Devonte Lee’s 1-yard touchdown run with 1:06 left.

A Sherwood cop illegally arrests a Pulaski County deputy for cursing on his own frontyard, which is a legally protected activity.
OF course the cop illegally arrested ends up getting fired while the Sherwood cop keeps getting paid.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Tagovailoa, No. 1 Alabama blow out Arkansas State , 57-7
New Post has been published on https://is.gd/uddcwi
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Tagovailoa, No. 1 Alabama blow out Arkansas State , 57-7
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— Tua Tagovailoa passed for three first-quarter touchdowns and Jalen Hurts added two more before halftime, combining to lead No. 1 Alabama to a 57-7 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide (2-0) racked up big plays on the way to a 40-0 halftime lead while rotating the quarterbacks who battled for the job throughout the offseason. Coach Nick Saban officially announced Tagovailoa would remain the starter Monday, but both were big parts of the plan again.
Tagovailoa finished 13 of 19 for 228 yards and four TDs. He led seven drives and tossed in runs of 15 and 12 yards in the second half. Tagovailoa had TD passes of 58 yards to Jerry Jeudy, 31 to Henry Ruggs III and 41 to DeVonta Smith — all in the first quarter — and tacked on a 14-yarder to Derek Kief.
Hurts, who started the past two seasons, was effective, too. He was 7 of 9 for 93 yards but did fumble at the goal line after taking a hit while airborne.
Najee Harris ran for a career-high 135 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Justice Hansen couldn’t get the Red Wolves’ fast-paced offense going against the Tide defense. He was 15 of 36 for 140 yards with a touchdown and interception after tying a school-record with six touchdown passes last week.
Alabama outgained Arkansas State 599-391 in total yards.
THE TAKEAWAY Arkansas State: Sun Belt Conference favorites couldn’t muster a challenge, a la league mate Appalachian State versus Penn State last week. The Red Wolves didn’t quit, failing on an onside kick attempt after opening the third quarter with a touchdown drive featuring a 25-yard catch by Hansen from wide receiver Darveon Brown.
Alabama: Had the feel of a name-your-score type game early. It’s unclear how long the Tide will keep rotating quarterbacks, but Joseph Bulovas might be the new placekicker. Tide has outscored its first two opponents 108-21.
HAVE “NOTS” Cornerback Saivion Smith returned an interception 38 yards for the final touchdown before the half. It was the Tide’s third non-offensive touchdown of the season already and second pick-six.
HERE’S THE KICKER Alabama’s new kicker, Austin Jones, missed his second and third extra point attempts in the first half. Tide students cheered when Bulovas made his first PAT try. He also made a 39-yard field goal.
UP NEXT Arkansas State visits Tulsa, part of a stretch of three road games in four weeks.
Alabama opens Southeastern Conference play at Mississippi.
